Research Interests

Melanie's research interests include intergenerational relationships and solidarity issues as well as the transmission of roles and values within families; health disparities among minorities and whites; gender and ethnic differences in perceptions of aging as well as satisfaction with and expectations of retirement and health care; the persistence of women’s caregiver role across the life course; and aging and women’s self-concept.
