Research Interests

Ms. LaGorio’s research interests are in the rehabilitation of dysphagia  (swallowing disorders) and dysphonia (voice disorders) post stroke and head and neck cancer. Her specific interests include:

  • The effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation to the pharynx in the rehabilitation of dysphagia and dysphonia in the elderly
  • The effects of exercise on cortical re-organization as it pertains to dysphagia rehabilitation in the elderly.


Student Profile

Ms. LaGorio entered the PhD program in January, 2006 after more than 9 years of clinical practice as a medical Speech Language Pathologist in Los Angeles, California.  Her clinical expertise is in dysphagia rehabilitation, cognitive-linguistic rehabilitation after acquired brain injury, and vocal rehabilitation of the aging voice.
