Research Interests

Amanda’s primary area of interest is in cognition and aging. Specifically, she is interested in dementia and the decreased verbal ability of these persons to express pain. Her intended direction of research is to:

  • Evaluate nonverbal indicators of pain through assessing behavioral observations of pain in persons with dementia
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of an analgesic trial in reducing behavioral manifestations of pain in persons with dementia.

Student Profile

Amanda first became interested in research while participating in the honor’s program as a senior in the college of nursing. She graduated with honors from the baccalaureate nursing program and returned to graduate school in the College of Nursing’s accelerated BSN to PhD program. She graduated from the Nurse Practitioner program and is a licensed Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Amanda has received funding through a University of Florida Alumni Fellowship and is currently a John A. Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Scholar. She also currently serves as a research assistant with Dr. Ann Horgas on an RO1 funded grant assessing pain in cognitively intact and impaired nursing home residents.
