Student Profile

Arlene A. Schmid entered the Rehabilitation Science Ph.D. program in January 2001. Completion of a dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Occupational therapy at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY in 1997. Clinical experience included rehabilitation in skilled nursing facilities with experience as a co-manager, treatment in adolescent psychiatry, and out patient orthopedics, specializing in hand therapy and the upper extremity. Arlene is a certified health and fitness instructor with the American College of Sports Medicine and certified to teach yoga. This has facilitated an interest in the use of exercise for the elderly population. Arlene completed her Ph.D. with Dr. Pamela Duncan on various projects regarding successful aging, stroke rehabilitation, exercise and therapeutic interventions for the elderly population.
