Research Interests

Adrienne’s research interests include minority cognitive aging, specifically the epidemiology of cognitive decline and dementias in African American older adults. Her Master’s thesis examined differences in cognitive test performance between African American and Caucasian elderly adults and investigating why these differences occur.  Her dissertation will explore the influence of whether increased participation in physical activity (especially aerobic exercise) contributes to improvement in older adults’ cognition, particularly in the domains of executive functioning (planning, monitoring, inhibiting, etc.).  

Student Profile

Adrienne's academic and research interest in aging began when she was an undergraduate student at Florida A&M University. During this time, she was a Distinguished Scholar with a 4-year full scholarship. She graduated with highest honors earning a B.A. in psychology and a minor in Spanish. Upon acceptance to the doctoral program in Clinical and Health Psychology, Adrienne was awarded the University of Florida Alumni Fellowship.  
Throughout her graduate school career, Adrienne has been the recipient of various honors and awards: Minority Aging Network in Psychology (MANIP) 2003 Fellow for APA’s Minority Fellowship Program; National Institute on Aging’s (NIA) Minority Supplement Award in 2004-2006; NIA Technical Assistance Workshop 2004 Fellow; and Poster Award Travel Grant- 17th Annual College of Public Health and Health Professions 2004 Research Fair.
