NIA-funded Predoctoral Research Training in Aging
The predoctoral research training program in aging at the University
of Florida has two components. First,
it is a selective mentored
research training program, open to pre-doctoral
students at UF who are
interested in research careers in aging. Second, for a selected subset
(typically 2 to 6 students per year) of trainees, the program also
provides stipend and tuition support. As an NIH T32 program, the
program is meant to train students with
research career aspirations, and it will fund those judged to be most
promising for such careers. Applicants are reviewed by our
Graduate Research and Training Committee (GRTC). All students,
regardless of funding status, are fully active thtrees in the program.
This training program supports close contact with a doctoral advisor,
regular colloquia and
professional development seminars conducted by leading national
gerontologists, and a strong emphasis on
methodological training. Some students (up to six students per year)
will also receive funding from our T32 award, which will include
stipend/tuition/travel support, along with some training expense
allowance.
