Recruitment support for Network Members
Faculty in our supported units qualify for human subjects recruitment support. We only support the recruitment of older adults at this time. The following resources are available:
1. Participant
registry. Our registry of older adults (mostly healthy and
community dwelling) currently numbers over 400 participants.
Faculty may submit a proposal to their IRB to recruitment participants
from this registry. In order to recruit from the registry,
investigators should first contact Michael Marsiske to verify
appropriateness of the registry for their research question. If
the registry is appropriate, faculty must obtain approval from the
IRB. This will involve submitting a protocol revision, and in the
revision, the investigator must list the registry's IRB number, and
include a copy of the registry's Informed Consent Form. These
materials are available from Michael Marsiske.
2. Targeted
recruitment support. Investigators who have special needs
for recruitment of older participants (e.g., those with certain health
conditions) can schedule a meeting with Dr. Marsiske and the research
team to develop a strategy. We will support your research staff
in their recruitment activities. Consultation may also include
design of collateral support materials (flyers, brochures, newspaper
ads).
3. Community and
advertising contacts database. We maintain a small
database of community contacts who may be helpful in senior
recruitment. We also have a list of for-pay advertising
newspapers, TV/radio stations, and can help plan an advertising
strategy.
4.
Liaison with major registries at UF. Other registries
which may be appropriate for University of Florida investigators
interested in aging include (a) Brain Rehabilitation Research Center
(Leslie Gonzalez-Rothi, PI); (b) Alzheimers/Cognitively Impaired
Registry (Kimford Meador, PI); (c) Institute on Aging Registry (Marco
Pahor, PI); (d) Movement Disorders Registry (Michael Okun, PI); (e)
Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center Registry (William Mann,
PI). We can help make connections to these investigators, to help
examine possible areas of collaborative overlap.
5. Oak Hammock
Continuing Care Retirement Community. We serve as the
research liaisons to the Oak Hammock CCRC. All recruitment
requests for persons interested in conducting research at Oak Hammock
should be directed to Michael Marsiske. Detailed recruitment
information is also available at http://www.oakhammock.org/affiliation/research_home.asp.
